Could your small business benefit from HMRC’s free financial support resources?

 In Small Businesses & Startups

HMRC aren’t known for intuitive procedures, or making life straightforward for small business owners (anyone who’s filled in a self-assessment tax return can testify to that). But did you know they offer support through free financial support resources? These useful tools comprise webinars, e-learning sessions and videos.

Business practice areas covered

The resources cover key business areas, such as self-employment, employee regulations, VAT, international trade and advice for tax agents. For SME owners, important learner topics include: National Insurance, business records, expenses, running payroll, paying HMRC, dispute resolution, Customs import value calculations and the basics of VAT.

How business owners can engage with HMRC’s resources

A simple registration process is required before the resources can be accessed free from the HMRC website:

  • E-learning courses: available to complete online, giving you the chance to learn at your own speed and at suitable times.
  • Live webinars: generally 2 per month. They last about one hour and allow for real-time participation and questions. Also available on YouTube after completion, to view when it suits you.
  • Small business owners can also subscribe to a monthly email featuring a bespoke selection of information on topics of interest.

The resources link directly to business forms and further guidance, enabling newly acquired knowledge to be put directly in to practice, and providing easy contact with HMRC if you have any further queries.
